One of the most amazing facts about the Great Pyramid is that it is the world's tallest man made structure. The Pyramid of Giza is the largest Egyptian pyramid and the tomb of the Fourth Dynasty pharaoh Khufu. This ancient pyramid is the oldest and one of the seven wonders of the world that remains intact. Inside the main chamber of this pyramid is a granite coffer too large to fit through the narrow passageway at the entrance. The Pyramids of Giza were once covered in a white casing made of sparkling limestone that was so smooth it would reflect the sun's rays. The original pyramid with its cover stones would act like a giant mirror and reflect light so powerfully that it would appear from the moon as a star shining on Earth. The Great Pyramid of Giza has a base average of 755.75 feet (230 m) and an original height of 481.4 feet (147 m). This pyramid has an estimated 2.3 million blocks. Approximately 5.5 million tons of limestone, 8,000 tons of granite and 500,000 tons of mortar were used in the construction of this pyramid. These pyramids are so big that they can be seen from space on clear days. No other man made structure in the world can boast of this incredible fact.
