Puffer Fish

Perhaps not many people know that even a fish can do beautiful art. A species of puffer fish in length approximately 10cm known as white-spotted puffer fish or Torquigener albomaculosus makes beautiful art in the sand in the sea.

The majority of pufferfish species are toxic and some are among the most poisonous vertebrates in the world. In certain species, the internal organs, such as the liver, and sometimes the skin, contain tetrodotoxin, and are highly toxic to most animals when eaten, nevertheless, the meat of some species is considered a delicacy in Some countries like in Japan Puffer fish as 河豚, fugu, in Korea as 복, bok or 복어, bogeo and in China as 河豚, hétún. When prepared by specially trained chefs who know which part is safe to eat and in what quantity. Other pufferfish species with nontoxic flesh, such as the northern puffer, Sphoeroides maculatus, of Chesapeake Bay, are considered a delicacy elsewhere.

The white-spotted pufferfish (Torquigener albomaculosus) is known for its unique and complex courtship display which involves creating large, geometric circles in the sand. These circles are constructed in an effort to attract females for copulation. Males must maintain their circles in order to attract a mate.

A beautiful art made by only 10 cm length fish.

Most pufferfish species live in marine or brackish water, but some may enter freshwater. About 35 species spend their entire life cycle in fresh water.
