लिप (होठ) प्लेट

Lip plate may be the first time you read this term but you may be surprised to know that women in some African countries traditionally wear lip plates even today. The lip plate is usually made of wood. It can also be round and big. A hole is pierced in the lip and then it is inserted into the hole. lip plate also known as lip plug, lip disc or mouth plate. The size of the lip plate often depends on the marital status of the wearer.

हो सकता है कि लिप प्लेट पहली बार आपने इस शब्द को पढ़ा हो लेकिन आपको यह जानकर आश्चर्य हो सकता है कि कुछ अफ्रीकी देशों में महिलाएं पारंपरिक रूप से आज भी लिप प्लेट लगाती हैं। लिप प्लेट आमतौर पर लकड़ी से बनी होती है। यह गोल और बड़ा भी हो सकता है। होंठ में एक छेद किया जाता है और फिर उसे छेद में डाला जाता है। लिप प्लेट को लिप प्लग, लिप डिस्क या माउथ प्लेट के रूप में भी जाना जाता है। लिप प्लेट का आकार अक्सर पहनने वाले की वैवाहिक स्थिति पर निर्भर करता है।

गर्दन की अंगूठी

The word neck ring sounds like jewelry and yes it is jewelry but it is more like a neck ring. It is worn as a neck ornament. Kayan women in Myanmar wear brass rings around their necks. Those people wear this neck ring for whole life and make their neck longer. The belief behind which is that the longer the neck, the more beautiful the woman. Kayan women start wearing neck rings from the age of two. This custom was instituted to make women less attractive, thereby preventing them from being abducted by rival tribes. Nowadays, they are worn to preserve the cultural tradition.

नेक रिंग शब्द ज्वेलरी जैसा लगता है और हां यह ज्वेलरी है लेकिन यह नेक रिंग की तरह अधिक है। इसे गले के आभूषण के रूप में पहना जाता है। म्यांमार में कायन महिलाएं अपने गले में पीतल की अंगूठी (neck ring) पहनती हैं। वे लोग इस गले की अंगूठी (neck ring) को जीवन भर पहनते हैं और अपनी गर्दन को लंबा करते हैं। जिसके पीछे मान्यता यह है कि जितनी लंबी गर्दन होगी, स्त्री उतनी ही खूबसूरत होगी। कायन महिलाएं दो साल की उम्र से गले में अंगूठी (ring) पहनना शुरू कर देती हैं। यह रिवाज महिलाओं को कम आकर्षक बनाने के लिए स्थापित किया गया था, जिससे उन्हें प्रतिद्वंद्वी जनजातियों द्वारा अपहरण किए जाने से रोका जा सके। आजकल, वे सांस्कृतिक परंपरा को बनाए रखने के लिए पहने जाते हैं।

Bathe Only once in a lifetime

The Himba are an indigenous people with an estimated population of about 50,000 people living in the Kunene region (formerly Kaokoland) and northern Namibia on the other side of the Kunene River in southern Angola. Women there bathe only once in their lifetime on their wedding day. It is a surprising thing to read but yes it is true. In fact, instead of bathing, the women there boil special herbs in water to prevent their body odor from its fumes and perfume it. So his body remains fresh even without bathing. The women of this caste use a special lotion prepared from animal fat and hematite dust (an iron-like mineral) to protect their skin from the sun. Due to hematite dust, their skin color turns red. It is said that women also use hematite for this reason so that their color turns red and they look different from men. This special lotion also protects them from insect bites.

हिम्बा दक्षिणी अंगोला में कुनेने नदी के दूसरी तरफ कुनेन क्षेत्र (पूर्व में काओकोलैंड) और उत्तरी नामीबिया में रहने वाले लगभग 50,000 लोगों की अनुमानित आबादी वाले स्वदेशी लोग हैं। वहां की महिलाएं अपने जीवन में सिर्फ एक बार शादी के दिन ही नहाती हैं। पढ़ने में हैरानी वाली बात है लेकिन हां यह सच है। दरअसल, वहां की महिलाएं नहाने के बजाय पानी में खास जड़ी-बूटियों को उबालकर उसके धुएं से अपने शरीर की दुर्गंध को दूर करती हैं और उसे सुगंधित करती हैं। इसलिए बिना नहाए भी उनका शरीर तरोताजा रहता है। इस जाति की महिलाएं अपनी त्वचा को धूप से बचाने के लिए जानवरों की चर्बी और हेमेटाइट धूल (लोहे जैसा खनिज) से तैयार एक खास लोशन का इस्तेमाल करती हैं। हेमेटाइट धूल के कारण इनकी त्वचा का रंग लाल हो जाता है। कहा जाता है कि महिलाएं भी हेमेटाइट का इस्तेमाल इसी वजह से करती हैं ताकि उनका रंग लाल हो जाए और वे पुरुषों से अलग दिखें। यह खास लोशन उन्हें कीड़ों के काटने से भी बचाता है।
