An urban park between the Upper West and Upper East Side of Manhattan in New York City. It is known as Central Park (Central Park, Manhattan). It is the fifth largest park in the city. which covers 843 acres (341 hectares). After proposals for a larger park in Manhattan during the 1840s, it was approved in 1853 to cover 778 acres (315 ha) and opened to the public in late 1858. Additional land at the northern end of Central Park was purchased in 1859, And the park was completed in 1876. Central Park, Manhattan is the most visited urban park in the United States and the most filmed location in the world.

Major attractions include the Ramble and Lake, Hallett Nature Sanctuary, Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis Reservoir and landscapes such as Sheep Meadow. Entertainment attractions such as Wallman Rink, Central Park Carousel, and the Central Park Zoo; formal spaces such as Central Park Mall and Bethesda Terrace; and the Delacorte Theatre. The biologically diverse ecosystem contains several hundred species of flora and fauna. The park also has carriage-horse and bicycle rides, sports facilities and events such as concerts and Shakespeare in the Park.
